WORKING TOGETHER TO BEAUTIFY SOUTH AUCKLAND

Are you looking for a way to get your artwork seen? Chorus cabinets are the perfect blank canvas. Entries now open.

We aim to beautify the streets of South Auckland with five x two-door Chorus Communications Cabinets, painted by people within our community.  The cabinets are located at:

  • Cnr Old Park Road and Manuroa Road, Takanini
  • Cnr Paparoa Road and Minerva Terrace, Howick
  • Cnr Banyan Drive and Everglade Drive, Manukau
  • 21 Hamilton Drive, Waiuku
  • 13 Park Avenue, Papatoetoe

Our Chorus cabinet art competition invites people from within these communities to submit artwork designs for the cabinets listed above.  We've received some inspirational entries - check them out here.Chorus is a wonderful partner to the Trust.

Their Art Initiative helps us achieve our mission and visions of beautifying Auckland.

“We have thousands of cabinets on New Zealand streets but unfortunately some present tempting targets for graffiti. Our cabinet art programme sees the most frequently hit cabinets turned into beautiful works of art.Started in 2010, our cabinet art project helps combat tagging on our cabinets and the mural concept has since gone from strength to strength. We're now working with local communities and councils to identify artists and suitable designs that are meaningful to and fit with the area.” - Chorus

CRITERIA/FURTHER INFORMATION:

We're seeking designs that will inspire the community to grow their own food. The theme is based on our Eye on Nature 2017 Event's key message "Edibles - From the ground to the table".

Groups or individuals who enter should live, work or study in the area.

Entries are open to all residents in South Auckland, including artists who have previously worked on Chorus cabinets.

Artists must complete the work as detailed in the Chorus Cabinet Art Brief. Only upon full completion and to Chorus’s satisfaction will payment be made.

Please state the area you have designed the mural for (from the five sites above).

Tell us the story about your art (approximately 100 - 200 words) and why your design is inspiring to your community.

Entries close 24 February 2017. Artists must be available to complete their artwork between mid March and mid April 2017.
